ALLUVIAL DRILLS
The major advantages of Banka drills are the low cost, the simplicity of use and the reliability.
The basic tool for alluvial exploration is cased drill. The most popular is Banka drill. It has a long history as it was originally invented over 150 years ego. The fact that the modern versions of Banka drill are still in use demonstrates the usefulness of that alluvial exploration tool. Where the access is difficult, the manual versions are used. Where the access is not a problem the powered versions are used. The casings of these drills come in three sizes 4, 6 and 8-inch. The manual Banka drills use 4 and 6-inch casings. The powered drills use 6 and 8-inch casings. Banka drills are used for taking samples in eluvial or alluvial gold or diamonds exploration projects where the reliability of sampling program is the main concern. The use of connecting casings prevents contamination of samples taken at progressive depths. The presence of water, in the tested ground, does not present any problem, on the contrary it helps. Where the access to the drilling site is not a problem, the 8-inch size casings are preferred and the depth more than 20 m. is expected, a powered version of Banka drill; Pioneer PP-150 mk2 is used.
It offers the same low cost, simplicity and reliability as it manual version. In addition it speeds up the drilling while using smaller drill crew.
Pioneer and Banka drills are made to order using the best steel and modern production technology. A complete set of drilling tools is available and special tools can be made according to the customer's design. Where an excavator is available on drilling site, a boom mounted version of 8-inch Banka drill is also available. It uses very small drilling crew and provides the same quality of sampling with lesser drilling time.
