BANKA DRILL OPERATING MANUAL

Banka drill crew in action!

FIG. 1 The above vision is often too real...

DOs AND DON'Ts

    1. Use only a waterproof grease to protect drill parts during the storage.
    2. Check your parts before going in the field, discovering later that you missed something is frustrating.
    3. Hire a good crew leader who knows the works... or buy more casings, bailers and rods.
    4. Use a soap solution for lubricating and cleaning parts during the work.
    5. Use your head before using a hammer on cast iron parts.
    6. Keep treads clean at all time.
    7. Keep few casing and bailer shoes on hand, rebuilding them, as you need, with hard-facing welding rods.
    8. Never bail ahead of the casing.
    9. In running sand, drive the casing far ahead of the bailer.
    10. Clean your drill after use... it will serve you well the next time.
    11. Modifications you may want to make:
      • - Add an anti-skidding strip to the platform edge when you work in muddy places.
      • - Hard-face bailer shoes before use.

DRILLING CREW

Number: 6 to 12 men in 2x4 men or 3x4 men teams.

Think about safety first; use hard hats, boots with toe protection and leather gloves.
Train your crew well, and staff it with physically above average, even height members.

EXTRAS

You will need a chainsaw, a heavy and light hammer, plenty of soap, wire and fibber brushes, containers with water for the drill, container with water for the crew and samples processing equipment.

BANKA drill will penetrate shale, soft slate, cemented gravel and weathered decomposed bedrock, but is not suitable for drilling in hard rock.

By working with "casings" the most valuable information is obtained from the bore hole. Especially, this simple drill is used in ground with high ground water levels of shallow water (swamps, rivers or estuaries).

The BANKA can be transported in "one-man-packs" for operation anywhere.
