The Sluice Box

The sluice box is the most cost effective gold recovery device available. It allows a larger amount of material to be processed. It is quite insensitive to the feed amount and granulometry variations. Also, it will accept vegetation parts, etc. The only aspect interfering with the sluice box ability to recover gold is high clay content of the feed material. The sluice box is the basis gold recovery system of the suction dredges. Properly set, the sluice box can recover up to 325 MESH size gold. The sluice box is not a proper device for the diamond recovery; the pulsation jig is the proper device.

Making and Setting Sluice Boxes

The size, the inclination, the material of which it is build and the covering of it are all variables depending on the volume of feeding, the feed material granulometry spread and its clay content, the forms of gold particles and the granulometry spread of gold particles.

Often, I receive the emails asking me the details of how to set the sluice. At the same time, the asking person don't supply any of the above information. Most often, because the question is academic or because the person don't know anything about the material they want or are dredging. Well, the ignorance is a bliss, but in this case it is a money wasting bliss.
